Team Position: Fantastic Command Leader

Lynn's favourite Demon is a wonderful little girl from the litter we kept in 1999. She is a very kind girl and loves attention. Demon lived with her brother for many years, although the last few years has moved in with our retired group.

Demon was Adrian's Command Leader on the 4 & 6-dog teams for many years. She was a fantastic reliable, confident and fast girly but a freak accident in 2005 left her unable to work again.

Whilst training in 2005, Demon was leading a 6-dog team and had just been set off. Within 15 feet of the van she collapsed to the floor, we were unable to get her back up as her hind end was paralised. She was rushed to the vets where she had xrays, scans and high doses of IV steroids. We were able to bring her home a day later but she needed help to stand and toilet. Demon was diagnosed with Fibrocartilagenous Thromboembolism, which is a blood clot on the spinal cord - it was not caused by anything we had done, just an unfortunate accident that could have happend in the kennel or out working! It was so sad seeing such a wonderful dog suffering in this way, we did wonder whether we had made the right decision in allowing her the opportunity to try and regain some use of her rear end? Very slowly over the next 3 weeks she improved, day by day we could see little changes that eventually led to her being able to stand and walk un-aided. She is now able to trot around the yard and cause havic amongst the others, she has a very strange gait and will never run again. She seems happy with her life and although she has good days and bad days, on the whole we think it was the right decision to have made.
